David Sutton has been our pastor since 2006.
David loves the creative side of ministry, preaching, writing, teaching, and working with people of every age. Enjoying all kinds of music, he uses music in a variety of ways in worship. David values the trust that people place in him as pastor, and the ways God works among the gathered people of God in the church and the community. He spent a sabbatical in his last pastorate exploring creative worship that honors the living traditions of the faith while presenting the gospel in fresh, lively ways.
With his wife Finley, David likes to travel, hike, and spend time with family and good friends. They began their married life working in 'A Christian Ministry in the National Parks' on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and have served and traveled in North Africa, Europe, and the U.S. Finley is a Christian Educator, serving the Hartness-Thornwell Presbyterian Church at the Thornwell Home for Children. David’s and Finley’s service to the church has taken them to churches in North Carolina and West Virginia prior to their call to South Carolina.
The Suttons have two sons, Ben and John. John is a student at Appalachian State University. Recently married to Katie, Ben is a cabinet-maker in Virginia.
David likes to write, tries his hand at photography, plays guitar, and keeps books of fiction, biography, and current Biblical and theological interest on his reading table. David and Finley enjoy their friends in the Spartanburg community and exploring the upstate.
